ALCOA CAVALIER (Alcoa SS Co)

Built by Oregon Shipbuilding Corporation and laid down in 1945 as the Victory hull type attack transport USS Hempstead, she was purchased while on the stocks by the Alcoa Steamship Company and re-designed as a cargo-passenger liner. She entered service in 1947 as Alcoa Cavalier, New York to the Caribbean. She ceased carrying passengers in 1960 and was laid up at New Orleans in 1961. Broken up 1968.
