ANDREA C (Linea C)

Built in 1942 at Richmond, California, as the Ocean-class cargo ship Ocean Virtue for the Ministry of War Transport and managed by Prince Line. On 21/7/1943 she sank at berth at Augusta, Sicily, having been hit by an enemy torpedo. Later raised and towed to Catania where she spent the rest of the war. Sold in 1946 to Costa Line and rebuilt at Genoa as a passenger ship, she entered service 6/1948 as Andrea C between Genoa and the River Plate. Rebuilt in 1959 with a new bow and new accommodation, and from then spent an increasing amount of time cruising as well as her liner service. Rebuilt as a one-class cruise ship in 1970. She completed her last cruise 10/1981 and was broken up at La Spezia in 1983.
