ANTILLES (CGT/French Line)

Passenger liner built at Brest that entered service in 1953 on the Le Havre-Southampton-West Indies service. Sister-ship to Flandre. In January 1971 she hit an uncharted rock off the island of Mustique. The impact ruptured an oil pipe and the oil caught fire. Passengers were rescued by, amongst others, the Cunard liner Queen Elizabeth 2. The ship broke up and sank.
