ARK ROYAL
English galleon ordered by Sir Walter Raleigh as Ark, later Ark Raleigh, that was purchased by The Crown in 1587 and renamed Ark Royal. She took part in the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588 and the raid on Cadiz in 1596. Renamed Anne Royal in 1608. In 4/1636 she sank at anchor in the River Medway and although raised was beyond repair and broken up.
