ATLANTIC (Home Lines)

Passenger liner built at Philadelphia that entered service in 1927 for Matson Line as Malolo between San Francisco and Honolulu. Renamed Matsonia in 1937. She served as a troopship in the Pacific from 1941 to 1945. Purchased by Home Lines in 1949 and renamed Atlantic, Genoa to New York service. Transferred to subsidiary company National Hellenic Mediterranean Line in 1954 and renamed Queen Frederica for Piraeus to New York service and later Northern Europe to Canada. She was registered as Vasilissa Freideriki but never bore this name. Purchased by Chandris Lines in 1966 and placed on the Southampton - Sydney service with some cruising. Chartered to Sovereign Cruises in 1968. Laid up on the River Dart in 1971, moving to Piraeus in 1972. Returned to cruising in 1973 but was laid up again at the end of the year. At the end of 1977 she was started to be broken up but was destroyed by fire early in 1978.
