BADGER (Lake Michigan Car Ferry Service)
Coal-fired ferry built at Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, to carry railcars, passengers and vehicles. She entered service in March 1953 for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway on Lake Michigan. Sold in 1983 to the Michigan-Wisconsin Transportation Company, same service. Laid up in 1990 and purchased the following year by Charles F. Conrad, for Lake Michigan Car Ferry Service, she underwent a major refit including the removal of the railcar capability. She now operates between Ludington, Michigan, and Manitowoc, Wisconsin, from May to October, still coal-fired and designated in the USA as a National Historic Landmark.
