Product information

BALMORAL (Southampton, Isle Of Wight & South of England Royal Mail Steam Packet Co)
Paddle steamer built at Ayr in 1899, she remains the fastest conventional ship ever operated by Red Funnel. Exclusively an excursions vessel she was the only Red Funnel ship to operate across the English Channel, twice a week running excursions from Southampton to Cherbourg. She served in WW1 as a cross-channel troopship and then as a minesweeper, returning to commercial service in 1921. In WW2 she served as an auxiliary anti-aircraft ship and from 1943 served on the Clyde as an accommodation ship. She was returned to the company in 1947 in such poor condition that she was broken up.
