BERENGARIA (Cunard Line)
Passenger liner built by AG Vulcan, Hamburg, as Imperator for Hamburg-America in 1913. At the time of completion she was the largest passenger ship in the world. During WW1 she remained laid up at Hamburg and after the war she briefly served as a transport for the US Navy, renamed USS Imperator. In 1920 she was ceded to Britain and chartered by Cunard, making her first voyages Liverpool to New York still as Imperator. In 1921 she was purchased by Cunard and renamed Berengaria, her home port moving to Southampton. She was withdrawn in 1938 and sold for breaking up on the River Tyne.
