BLOEMFONTEIN CASTLE (Union Castle Line)
Passenger liner built by Harland & Wolff, Belfast. She made her maiden voyage, London-Cape Town-Beira, as Bloemfontein Castle for Union-Castle in 1950. Sold in 1959 to Chandris and renamed Patris for 'National Greek Australian Line'. Greece-Australia service then after Suez closure made some voyages Djibouti-Australia. 1972, Singapore-Australia, and in 1975 used as accommodation ship at Darwin following devastation caused by Hurricane Tracy. To Greece in 1976 and converted to car ferry, Venice-Patras. Sold in 1980 to Karageorgis and renamed Mediterranean Island, and in 1981 renamed Mediterranean Star. Sold for breaking up at Gadani Beach, Pakistan, in 1988.
