BREMEN (Norddeutscher Lloyd)

Passenger liner built at St. Nazaire as Pasteur for Compagnie Navigation du Sud-Atlantique. Intended for the service to South America she was laid up at Brest when completed in September 1939 because of the outbreak of WW2 and from 1940 used for trooping. She sailed for the British, managed by Cunard White Star, until 1946 and then the French, mainly to Indo-China, until 1956. Then sold to North German Lloyd and rebuilt as Bremen for the North Atlantic, entering service in 1959. Sold to Chandris in 1972 as a cruise ship and renamed Regina Magna. Not a success she was laid up 1974-77 and then sold as an accommodation ship in Saudi Arabia, renamed Saudi Phil I, then Filipinas Saudi I. She sank in 1980 in the Indian Ocean whilst being towed to Taiwanese ship-breakers.
