"Sands and channel boat, Newhaven"
BRIGHTON (British Railways)
Built by Denny of Dumbarton, she entered the Newhaven-Dieppe service as Brighton in 1950. With the introduction of car ferries in 1964 she was relegated to relief ship and excursions. Sold in 1966 to Jersey Lines and renamed La Duchess De Bretagne having been refitted to carry 25 cars. She operated a complex timetable from Southampton, Weymouth and Torquay to the Channel Islands and St. Malo. Jersey Lines were bankrupt in 1969 and the ship was broken up in Belgium in 1970.
