DISCOVERY 1 (Discovery Cruises)
Cruise ferry built in 1970 by Upper Clyde Shipbuilders for Fred Olsen as Blenheim. She spent the winter months cruising from London to the Canary Islands, and the summer months operating a ferry service, originally between Kristiansand and Amsterdam or Harwich but from 1976 between Bergen and Cuxhaven. Sold in 1981 to DFDS Seacruises and rebuilt by Blohm & Voss as a cruise ship, renamed Scandinavian Sea, cruising between Florida and the Bahamas. Badly damaged by fire in March 1984 and declared a constructive total loss. Sold in May 1984 to A. Lelakis of Piraeus and towed to Elefsina for re-building. Sold in 1985 to Pan Ocean and renamed Venus Venturer. Further re-construction at Valencia in 1985. Sold in 1986 to Bajamar Shipping and renamed Discovery 1, owners becoming Discovery Cruises in 1992. Suffered another fire in May 1996 and again declared a constructive total loss. Broken up at Alang, India, in 1997.
