EMPRESS OF FRANCE (Canadian Pacific)

Built by John Brown on the Clyde, she maiden voyage as Duchess Of Bedford, Liverpool to Montreal, in 1928. Requisitioned as a troopship in 1939 and was credited with sinking a U-boat in 1942. Decommissioned in 1947 and completely refitted at Govan and renamed Empress Of France (originally intended to be Empress Of India), entering service in 1948. Broken up at Newport in 1960/61.
