EMPRESS OF RUSSIA (Canadian Pacific)
Built by Fairfield's of Glasgow for trans-Pacific service, she made her maiden voyage positioning from Liverpool to Hong Kong in 1913. Requisitioned in 1914 as an armed merchant cruiser, patrolling the Indian Ocean. Returned to Canadian Pacific in 1916 but taken up as troopship on the North Atlantic in 1918. Refitted at Hong Kong in 1919 and returned to service. Taken up as a troopship again in 1940. Destroyed by fire whilst undergoing refit at Barrow in 1945.
