FESTIVALE (Carnival Cruise Line)
Passenger liner built by John Brown, Clydebank, that entered service in January 1962 for Union-Castle as the 'Hotel-class' Transvaal Castle, on the express mail route from Southampton to South Africa. Transferred in 1966 to Safmarine and renamed SA Vaal, remaining on the same service. Sold in 1977 to Carnival Cruise Line and renamed Festivale. Rebuilt in Japan she entered service as a cruise ship in 1978. Sold in 1996 to Dolphin Cruise Line and as Island Breeze was chartered to Thomson Holidays. In 1998 she was sold to Premier Cruises, being renamed Big Red Boat III but the company collapsed shortly afterwards and she was laid up at Freeport, Bahamas. Broken up at Alang, India in 2003 as The Big Boat.
