FLANDRE (French Line)
Passenger liner built at Dunkirk that entered service, Le Havre to New York, in 1952 as Flandre for CGT/French Line. However she had a major power failure upon entering New York and suffered the indignity of finishing her maide voyage being towed to her berth. She was withdrawn and re-entered service in 1953. She started life with a black hull and short funnel but was painted white with a taller funnel when she joined her sister Antilles on the West Indies service in 1962. In 1968 she was sold to Costa and rebuilt as a one class cruise ship, Carla C. Chartered to Princess Cruises in 1969 and marketed as Princess Carla returning to Costa in 1970. In 1986 was renamed CarlaCosta. Sold in 1992 to Epirotiki and renamed Pallas Athena, but in 1994 she was destroyed by fire at Piraeus and later broken up at Aliaga.
