GOLDEN CROSS
Tug built in 1955 by Scott & Co., Bowling, Dunbartonshire as Golden Cross for Tees Towing, Middlesbrough. Sold in 1968 to Newport Screw Towing and renamed Dunheron and in 1971 to Cory Ship Towage, still at Newport. Sold in 1972 to Dublin owners, then chartered in 1977 to Nautico, Jourde, Netherlands and renamed Orca. Sold in 1978 to Carmet Tug Co., Bromborough, in 1991 to Tyne Towage, Newcastle, and in 1994 to Lawrence & Co., London. Sold in 1996 to Pounds Shipbreakers, Portsmouth, but was purchased by a Captain White and actress Suzie Wong for preservation. Renamed Golden Cross in 1997 and re-classed as a yacht having had her towing gear removed. She had some restoration work done at Charlestown, Cornwall, (c2008) and was later at Falmouth. In 2012 she arrived at Ardentiny, Argyll & Bute, where there were plans to preserve her, however that winter she broke her moorings and ran aground and despite being refloated was still taking on water so was deliberately beached. Broken up in 2014 at Rosneath.
