HANSA (Hamburg-America Line)

Passenger liner built by Blohm & Voss, Hamburg, she made her maiden voyage 1923 as Albert Ballin for Hamburg-America. She was lengthened in 1933 by 43ft (13m). In 1935 was renamed Hansa by order of the German government as Albert Ballin was Jewish. Sunk by a mine in 1945 but was raised by the Russians and rebuilt at Antwerp then Warnemunde, as Sovietsky Sojus. In service from 1955 based at Vladivostock, she was renamed Tobolsk in 1980 but was broken up the following year at Hong Kong.
