HOMERIC (Home Lines)

Passenger liner built in 1932 by Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corp., Quincy, Massachusetts, as Mariposa for Matson Navigation for service from West Coast USA to Australia. She served as a troopship between 1941 and 1946. After WW2 a refit back to commercial service was not completed and she was laid up. Sold in 1953 to Home Lines and renamed Homeric. Originally running transatlantic (to New York and then to Montreal) as well as cruising, in 1963 she became a full time cruise ship. She was damaged by fire in 1973 and due to her age was scrapped in Taiwan.
