Product information
LAMORICIERE (Compagnie Generale Transatlantique)
Passenger liner built in 1920 by Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson, Newcastle, for the Marseilles to North Africa express service. After 6/1940 she was retained by Vichy France on the same service. On 7/1/1942 she diverted to aid the cargo vessel Jumieges off Minorca in a violent storm. The next day she herself radioed for assistance as she was listing heavily and her engine room was flooded. Ships dashed to her aid from Marseilles but she foundered on the 9th January with the loss of nearly 300 lives. 95 were saved.
