Originally had a black hull. Laid up in New York at the outbreak of war in 1939, then cruising but when the Netherlands were invaded she was handed over to the Allies by the Dutch government in exile and converted to a troopship. Operated by Cunard White-Star she was fast enough to operate without convoy. Returned to commercial service in 1947 and was given a grey hull in 1957. In 1971 became full-time cruise ship. In January 1974 made a final cruise from Port Everglades to Los Angeles, from where she sailed to Kaohsiung to be broken up.
