OCEAN GLORY 1 (Festive Holidays)

Passenger liner built by Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson, Newcastle, that entered service in 1951 for SGTM as Provence sailing between Marseilles and Buenos Aires. Badly damaged by a collision in the River Plate in 1954 and out of service for a year. In 1961 she was chartered to Costa Armatori (Linea C) for service between Genoa and Buenos Aires. Costa purchased her in 1965, rebuilt her and renamed her Enrico C., returning to service in 1966. Rebuilt as a cruise ship in 1979, the company became Costa Cruises in 1987 and she was renamed EnricoCosta. Sold to Star Lauro in 1994 and renamed Symphony, becoming part of the Mediterranean Shipping Company fleet in 1995. Sold in 2000 to Golden Sun Cruises and renamed Aegean Spirit. Chartered to Festive Holidays in June 2001 and renamed Ocean Glory 1. Arrested on arriving at Dover July 2001 by the Maritime & Coastguard Agency re historical complaints about the ship.
