OCEAN MONARCH (Shaw Savill & Albion)
Entered service as Empress Of England for Canadian Pacific in 1957 with a maiden voyage from Liverpool to Montreal. Chartered to the Travel Savings Association in 1963 for cruising, returning to the trans-Atlantic in 1965. Sold in 1970 to Shaw Savill as Ocean Monarch. She made one Southampton-Australia return voyage and was then rebuilt as a one class cruise ship at Birkenhead but strikes delayed her return to service by 6 months, and 12 cruises (and £12million) from Southampton were lost. She then made a positioning voyage to Auckland for cruises from there and later from Sydney. She suffered persistent engine problems and developed a bad reputation leading to her return to the UK in 1973. Broken up at Kaohsiung in 1975
