OLYMPIC (White Star Line)
Built 1911 at Harland & Wolff, sister to Titanic and Britannic. Maiden voyage in May and in September was rammed by the cruiser HMS Hawke and badly damaged, something for which Olympic was held to blame (!). Troopship during WW1, and in 1918 rammed and sank German submarine U-103 off The Lizard, Cornwall. Resumed commercial service in 1920, and in 1924 collided with the Furness-Bermuda liner Fort St. George. In 1934 company became Cunard-White Star, and in keeping with her obvious fondness for hitting things, Olympic managed to ram and sink the Nantucket Lightship. Last voyage in 1935, broken up at Jarrow, then Inverkeithing.
