ORAMA (Orient Line)

Passenger liner built by Vickers-Armstrong, Barrow-in-Furness, that made her maiden voyage from London to Australia in 1924. In 1940, converted to a troopship, she was used to transport the British Expeditionary Force to Norway. On 8/6/1940 she, along with the aircraft carrier Glorius, the destroyers Acasta and Ardent and the tanker Oil Pioneer were attacked and sunk by the German warships Scharnhorst, Gneisenau and Admiral Hipper. The Orama was not carrying troops but 19 crew were killed and 280 taken prisoner by the Admiral Hipper.
