QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 (Cunard Line)

The 'QE2'. Built by John Brown, Clydebank, and named in 1967 by HM The Queen. After problems in her sea trials she made her maiden voyage, Southampton to New York in May 1969. Transatlantic in the summer months and cruising during the winter. In 1972 she was subject to a bomb threat and members of the SAS and SBS were parachuted down to her in the Atlantic. In 1982 she carried 3000 troops to the Falklands, going most of the way 'blacked out' without modern aids. In 2004 she became a full-time cruise ship until 2008 when she was sold to interests in Dubai. She finally opened as a floating hotel in 4/2018.
