RAFFAELLO (Italia)
Trans-Atlantic liner built by Cantieri Riuniti dell'Adriatico, Trieste, that entered service in 1965 for Italia as Raffaello between Genoa and New York. Withdrawn in 1975 and laid up at Genoa, then La Spezia. Sold to the Imperial Iranian Navy, she became a barracks ship at Bandar Abbas in 1977, with no change of name. In 1982, during the Iraq-Iran War, she was bombed and set on fire by Iraqi aircraft leading to her being towed out and scuttled outside the harbour. The wreck was dismantled in 1987.
