SANTA ROSA (Grace Line)

Passenger liner built 1958 at Newport News for Grace Line as Santa Rosa and placed in service between New York and Central America. Laid up in 1971 at Hampton Roads, moving to Baltimore in 1976 After a long period of lay up she was sold in 1989 and rebuilt at Chalkis, Greece, as a cruise ship. She sailed 1992-1995 for Regency Cruises as Regent Rainbow. Between 1996 and 2012 she was owned by Louis Cruise Line, named either Emerald or The Emerald and sailing most of that time for Thomson Cruises. She was sold for scrap in 2012, despite meeting the SOLAS 2010 requirements

SANTA PAULA (Grace Line)

Passenger liner built by Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co., as Santa Paula for the Grace Line. She made her maiden voyage, New York to the Caribbean and South America 10/1958. Laid up in 1971 and sold 1972 to Sun Line who intended to rebuild her as a cruise ship. She was renamed Stella Polaris but remained laid up at Piraeus. She was sold to Marriott Corp for conversion to a floating hotel and arrived at Kuwait in 1978 renamed Kuwait Marriott Hotel, later becoming the Ramada Al Salaam. She was destroyed in an Iraqi air attack, 2/1991, during the first Gulf War.
