SAXONIA (Cunard Line)
Passenger liner built by John Brown, Clydebank, that made her maiden voyage from Liverpool to Boston in May 1900. From 1909 she spent winters on a Mediterranean to New York service and from 1912 was placed full-time on a Fiume (Rijeka) to New York route. In 1914 she was requisitioned as a troopship and then used as accommodation for German POWs. In 1915 she recommenced Liverpool to New York sailings but these were soon withdrawn and it was 1919 before she resumed the service. Later in 1919, with her tall funnel shortened by 16 foot, she started London to New York sailings. From 1920 she served Hamburg to New York. Broken up in Holland in 1925.
