Built by Harland & Wolff and launched by HM The Queen as Southern Cross, she entered service on Shaw Savill round the world service in 1955. In 1971 she was laid up, first in Southampton, then on the River Fal. Sold in 1973 to Ulysses Lines and renamed Calypso. She started cruising in 1975 first chartered to Hapag-Lloyd and then Thomson Holidays. In 1980 she was briefly called Calypso 1 before she went to Eastern Steamship Lines and was renamed Azure Seas.
