VOLKERFREUNDSCHAFT (Deutsche Seereederei)
Built in 1948 as Stockholm for Swedish America. In 1956 was in collision with the Italian liner Andrea Doria which sank. Stockholm was badly damaged but was repaired and returned to service. Sold in 1960 to Deutsche Seereederei (VEB) of East Germany and renamed Völkerfreundschaft. Sold in 1985, renamed Volker and laid up at Southampton before being towed to Oslo in 1986 as a refugee accomodation centre, renamed Fridtjof Nansen. Sold to StarLauro in 1989, and in 1992 rebuilt and renamed Italia 1, then Italia Prima. In 1998 chartered to Valtur Tourist and renamed Valtur Prima. Sold to Classic International in 2004 and renamed Athena. Sold to First Quality Cruises in 2008, then chartered to Phoenix Reisen. Sold to Island Cruises in 2013 and renamed Azores. Operated by Cruise & Maritime she was renamed Astoria in 2015.
